Towards a Standard Audio HAL for Android

Details

Summary

This talk introduces TinyHardware, an audio HAL for Android intended to provide a common reference implementation around which vendors and system integrators can standardise. Currently there are a range of competing audio HALs with a range of technical and licensing tradeoffs leading to fragmented efforts and much duplicated work in this area. The talk will outline the role of the audio HAL, provide an overview of the existing implementations and provide an introduction to TinyHardware showing how it aims to make life easier for system integrators. This talk is aimed at developers with basic familiarity with Android system integration. No prior audio knowledge is required. Mark Brown, Wolfson Microelectronics Mark is a Linux developer for Wolfson Microelectronics. He currently co-maintains the Linux kernel embedded audio and voltage regulator subsystems, maintains the register map API and has been a Debian developer for over ten years.
