Are you Really Helped by Upstream Kernel Code?
You may already recognize upstream Linux kernel development is essentially important. However you may still confused how you can get tangible advantage from such upstreaming effort when you aim to develop embedded product that runs Linux. I wonder this dilemma causes long term community claim for embedded forks about low contribution. I had been working in real embedded development field over 10 years and noticed production development is highly constrained by severe resource limit, schedule pressure and private design requirement. Does it mean there is almost no hope for embedded developers? No, I do not think so. I know some leading consumer product business already start serious contribution. And I believe there must be new coordination scheme across productization and common upstreaming. In this session I try to clarify 1) process issue in embedded, 2) possible isolation and alignment and 3)practical action to achieve positive loop. Speaker:Hisao Munakata, Renesas
